Form in the Dark

The ocean here moves on its own terms. Swell pushing against swell, water rising from the collision of forces beneath the surface, formations that have nothing to do with a clean breaking wave and everything to do with the organic force of a coastline doing what it has always done.

First light finds the face of one of those formations, the spray white and sharp against the dark sky, the texture of the water illuminated while the shadows behind it hold the depth and movement of everything still in darkness. What light touches and what it leaves alone.

Not every wave needs to be surfed to be worth watching.
