The Surface Reveals

There is a particular quality to first light on a moving swell. The side light catches the face of the wave at an angle that reveals everything beneath the surface, the texture, the tension, the uneven lines within the water as it lifts and folds forward.

This coastline has been a constant for a long time. Dark mornings, moving swell and that brief window where the light transforms the surface from something opaque and unknowable into something with form and character. The ocean awakening.
