Before Sunrise

Waimea moves quietly beneath the shadow of the valley. Long lines of swell gather beyond the point, rising from distant weather and deep water, carrying their energy toward the bay. The ocean is awake before the day is, its surface shifting with a rhythm that has repeated itself long before anyone stood on the shoreline to watch.

As the first light reaches the water, the character of the swell begins to change. Faces that moments earlier belonged to the dark catch the low sun and reveal their shape. What appeared solid becomes fluid again.

The day arrives all at once, but the ocean prefers to reveal itself gradually.
