Bright red-orange twin fountains burst upward into the atmosphere, two vents unleashed in spectacular symmetry. Towering plumes rise with immense force, exploding with heat and energy. Cloaked in ash, fragments of molten rock are hurled skyward, carried thousands of metres into the air.

This was raw timing. No second chances.

The two vents lit up and drove straight into the sky. I tightened the frame, there was nothing else to do but stand there and take it all in. The intensity of the moment, the scale of the event… the earth under my feet, pumice falling from above.

Surreal.

Like the planet exhaling—

a pressure valve releasing everything at once.
