Perfect P-Pass
When the swell aligned in 2013, I knew it was time to make the journey to Pohnpei in Micronesia. Shane Dorian, Mark Mathews and Dan Ross joined for a trip to one of the most remote reef breaks in the world.
What we found was eight to twelve foot waves breaking with remarkable precision over the reef. For nearly eight hours, the three of them surfed wave after wave, each one offering clean, mechanical lines through warm, glassy water.
This image of Shane, in particular, captures everything I value in surf photography: power, control and the clarity of the moment.
P-Pass that day was consistent in a way that felt almost unreal, warm water, long walls and barrels forming with steady rhythm across the reef.
“The waves at P-Pass that day were like something out of a dream, perfectly glassy, head-high tubes breaking with machine-like precision. Shane Dorian’s ability to ride them with such ease and control was mesmerising. Watching these three friends; Shane, Mark and Dan share wave after wave for hours on end was a reminder of why we chase swells: for moments like these, where everything aligns, and the ocean gives us its best.” — Ted
